Dr. Loren Borud Shares His Insights

The field of cosmetic surgery has been the industry that grows quite significantly from year to year. The industry has been the new hope for people who seek for physical perfection. The industry of cosmetic surgery is very close to the perfect image of celebrities. It has brought many celebrities to their perfect form and looks. For this matter, this industry is seen very glamorous from the outside. But how about the inside? Is it really that “glamorous”? This book is written by Dr. Loren Borud, a cosmetic plastic surgeon with decades of experience. This book he wrote tells all the stories behind the cosmetic industry. It reveals more than what meets the eyes. It is an up close and personal look into what is inside the industry. Everything about it is revealed in each page of this book, chapter by chapter.

“Plastikonomics” is the book that people who keep interest in cosmetic surgery should be reading. It covers the story of the people who seek for a cosmetic surgery treatment. There are many kinds of them and each and every person’s need is unique. Other than the customer, Dr. Loren Borud also revealed about the surgeons ranges from the reasons why medical students opt for cosmetic surgeon as a profession and what are the things that a cosmetic surgeon faces in his job. There are also discussions about the cosmetic industry as viewed from the economics point of view. This involves the discussion on how the new healthcare plans set by the government affect the industry in particular.

Loren Borud was born and raised in Minot, South Dakota. After graduating from Minot High School, he took double major in Physics and Human Biology at Stanford University and earned a B. S. degree with Phi Beta Kappa honors. He then decided to continue his study to Harvard Medical School for 8 years and then entered a residency in general surgery for 5 years at UCLA. During this time, he worked at UCLA Medical Center and several other medical centers including the Martin Luther King Drew Medical Center. He also had 2 years of research in the Division of Plastic Surgery while he was at UCLA. Another experience he had was the 3 clinical years of training in plastic surgery as well as in microsurgery at New York University’s Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. During this time, he worked at several hospitals in New York including the Tisch Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital.
