Look And Feel Younger – Habits

June 7th, 2011 No comments

Look and feel younger – not something we can achieve in one day, it is the result of good habits and consistency in the practice of those habits. There are many simple things everyone can do to begin to look and feel less than their chronological age and the sooner these new behaviors become habit, the sooner the effects can be seen.

Beauty Tips

Some of the beauty tips that can help us all look and feel younger are the simple things that we have been hearing about since we were kids, getting plenty of sleep and drinking six to eight glasses of water per day. These two habits can do wonders to improve the look of the complexion by keeping the body hydrated and well rested. An additional tip for the complexion: if you are able to sleep on your back and not on your stomach or side, you can avoid the formation of “sleep lines”, which can become wrinkles themselves.

Cosmetics

The use of cosmetics is one that comes up when the topic of how to look and feel younger is mentioned. There are many anti-aging creams, serums and lotions that are on the market, many of them hold the promise of smoothing lines and wrinkles and easing the appearance of aging on the face. This new powerful breed of anti-aging creams and lotions can work at exfoliating the top layer of skin cells to reveal a fresher and less dull surface and it can also add a hydrating layer of moisture to give the skin a dewy and younger look. Just keeping the complexion clean and moisturized will help you look and feel younger by itself.

H20

Along with getting plenty of rest and drinking the recommended amount of water each day, the other health habit that can help us all feel more youthful is getting plenty of exercise. A minimum amount of something aerobic such as walking or swimming can increase circulation throughout the body, giving us more energy to get through our days with a clear mind. Everyone is familiar with how sluggish we can feel after a lazy day on the couch watching television, it is a primary rule of good health that we get some daily activity, the oxygenation of our tissues depends on that.

Healthy Eating

Eating a healthy diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables as well as lean proteins can go a very long way in helping us look and feel younger. The proper fuel for our bodies can keep us alert and awake, easily able to tackle the chores of the day. Thinking clearly is much easier when our blood sugars are kept steady and not permitted to spike and then crash from sugary binges. That strong caffeine filled soft drink at three in the afternoon will have its revenge when it wears off! Better to drink water and take a brisk walk to re energize when the afternoon lull hits.

To look and feel younger, the basics that we already know and understand are at the foundation of our better appearance and health.

Stop Sweating So Much! Three Reasons to Slay the Sweat Monster

June 7th, 2011 No comments

Let me guess, you think this is obvious. You want to stop sweating so much because sweating is embarrassing, uncomfortable and off-putting. But for people like me who suffer from excessive sweating, you have NO IDEA the many ways that sweating can affect our lives and the hoops we must jump through to avoid embarrassment and discomfort.

So for my compadres in sweat and all you who don’t know our pain, please enjoy (and maybe try to identify) as I elaborate.
Spend more of that Old Navy gift card on board shorts (or whatever they’re shilling this season) and not on a three weeks’ supply of replacement undershirts. It turns out if you sweat a lot like we do, you go through undershirts like nobody’s business – because you wear them all the time in an often vain attempt to prevent the tell-tale dark circle of sweat under your arms and because your overactive sweat glands really put a hurtin’ on those same t-shirts.
Expand your wardrobe beyond white and shirts that go well with undershirts. Dark colors are the kiss of death when you start pouring sweat before you’re even out of the bathroom following your morning shower. Unless you plan to wear a jacket all the time, you need to be very careful what colors you pick every morning. That’s especially hard for those of us who aren’t especially good at picking out clothes to begin with.
Really and truly root for your favorite college football team, or soccer team, or tennis twosome, or NASCAR racer or ballet. Oh, OK, you might be OK with ballet because it’s usually dark. Throw those arms in the air! Wave ‘em like you just don’t care! Because you don’t… any more. Not since you learned to stop sweaty armpits! Seriously, it is a real pain to have to think about what’s going on under the arms before any move (including sweet dance moves) you might choose to execute above the waist.

I know very few of you out there really need a lot of convincing on this point, but I hope you’re starting to see just how tough life can be when your body just chooses to perspire without respite for hours on end, despite twice daily showers, low exertion, and avoiding all those stimulants like caffeine. It’s a real drag on our lives and can have significant personal and professional consequences. No wonder some of us would go to extreme lengths to solve this problem once and for all.
